We went to Mt. Batulao in Nasugbu, Batangas. This is one of the best mountains to start with if you’re looking for a quick trekking adventure from Manila.

ON THE WAY TO THE PEAK

Before we start, we had a quick orientation. We introduced ourselves and some guidelines were given.

Rule #1: LNT (Leave no Trace) Behind

Rule # 2: Single line only. Team Leader, first in line. Assistant team leader, last row. We’re in the middle

Rule # 3: Enjoy, but do not shout.

WARNING: Be careful. Usually the soil is loose so it’s kind of slippery.

Good thing we started our trek early in the morning. The weather is good; the cool breeze gently welcomes us to enter the mountain. We took a break at every camp along the way to catch our breath and to capture the beautiful scenery.

The locals and some mountaineers we met along the way are very friendly. It’s contagious that we also greet everyone we met, “magandang umaga,” “ingat po….”

We’re blessed that the soil is not that slippery.

The trail to the summit is not that exhausting. Though there was a path there near the peak that made it difficult for me — it’s somehow like a monolith. It’s not that I’m afraid of heights, I’m just afraid of falling.

See you on my next adventure.

Overall, this first trek I had is very memorable. Before I left home my father told me “that will be your first and last trek experience.” But when I went home, he told me to buy this brand of shoes because it’s suitable for mountaineers. I guess the photos made him see how happy I was and that made him change his mind. There will be a next time.
